Trump’s Ukraine Peace Plan Faces Challenges

Donald Trump’s campaign promise to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of inauguration did not go as promised. Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Trump’s envoy to Ukraine, has proposed a 100-day goal for brokering peace, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions. However, skeptics note that neither Trump’s connections with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy nor vague proposals have translated into actionable strategies.

Trump’s administration is expected to pressure both Kyiv and Moscow into negotiations, offering incentives like military aid or sanctions relief. Yet, Russian officials, while open to talks, demand Ukrainian neutrality and territorial concessions—conditions Kyiv rejects. Allies worry Trump might push Ukraine into an unfavorable settlement while reducing U.S. military support.

As the war grinds on with heavy casualties, experts doubt that Putin, whose forces are making incremental gains, would concede in negotiations. Trump’s national security team acknowledges the uphill battle ahead, signaling that peace will require significant diplomatic effort.
