In a significant humanitarian effort, Ukraine has successfully facilitated the return of 45 citizens from regions under temporary occupation, including areas within Russia and Belarus. This operation underscores ongoing diplomatic and operational efforts to assist affected individuals.
Source: Information was shared by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets via Telegram.
Quote: Lubinets stated, "Thanks to the coordinated work of the Ombudsman's Office of Ukraine, government agencies, humanitarian organisations and international partners, we managed to ensure the safe return of 45 Ukrainian citizens from the temporarily occupied territories, as well as from the territories of Russia and Belarus."
The group included individuals requiring specific assistance for relocation, such as those with limited mobility and severe health conditions. Of the 45 evacuees, 10 required urgent medical attention due to chronic illnesses, and arrangements were made for 23 individuals utilizing specialized transport alongside medical support.
Prominently, the majority of the returning citizens were elderly, with the oldest being 93 years old. Their return was aided by this extensive operational framework.
Additionally, several of the individuals who were repatriated had encountered legal challenges during their time away, as they had lost their personal identification documents, complicating their ability to cross borders independently.
Lubinets further highlighted that some returnees had endured persecution from Russian authorities. This includes a family affected by the disappearance and subsequent death of a father, who had reportedly been abducted and tortured.
