In a recent conversation with Radio Khartia, Ukrainian presidential advisor Alexander Kamyshin highlighted the remarkable production capabilities of Ukrainian manufacturers in the realm of first-person-view (FPV) drones. The country is positioned to manufacture over 5 million of these drones each year, indicating a significant advancement in drone technology amidst ongoing conflicts.
Both Ukraine and Russia have intensified their reliance on drone warfare strategies, utilizing various types of drones for critical tasks such as reconnaissance and combat. This modern approach to warfare underscores a shift in military tactics and technology for both nations.
Kamyshin noted that a single manufacturer in Ukraine is capable of producing 4,000 FPV drones daily. He emphasized that this is just one among the more than 150 manufacturers operating in the country, collectively showcasing immense production potential.
Despite these capabilities, Kamyshin pointed out that funding challenges hinder Ukraine from reaching its full production potential. In the previous year, production contributed to 2 million drones, significantly fewer than the nation's full capacity.
In addition to domestic production efforts, Ukraine is receiving support from an international drone coalition, which has recently allocated 20 million euros (approximately $21.6 million) to acquire tactical-level reconnaissance drones expected to be delivered within three months, enhancing Kyiv’s drone fleet.
Furthermore, Ukraine plans to purchase 4.5 million FPV drones this year as part of a broader initiative to enhance its military capabilities with advanced technologies, as announced by the Defense Ministry.
Kyiv is also innovating within the drone sector by developing missile-drone hybrids, such as the Palianytsia and Peklo models. These hybrid units serve as cost-effective substitutes for traditional cruise missiles with the integration of turbojet engines. Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelensky has mandated the production of at least 30,000 long-range drones by 2025.
